A Melbourne cable announces the death of Mr John Ford Paterson, a well-known landscape painter.

Mr Arthur Kember, a resident of Wellington for a number of years, and a brother of Mr Henry Kember, the well-known accountant, died yesterday morning.

Mr and Mrs J. H. Tully, who have, disposed of their interest in the Empire Hotel at Featherston, intend leaving the district shortly.

The many friends in this district, of Chief Inspector Fleming, of the Wellington Education Board, will regret to hear of,the death of his mother (Mrs J. S. Fleming) which occurred at Wellington last week. The deceased laely, who was seventy-two years of age, arrived in New Zealand in 1868, and resided on the West Coast for many years.

A pleasant function took place at St. Matthew's Club in Masterton last evening, when a large number of members were present to bid farewell to one of the most enthusiastic members in the person of Mr Noel Boyd, who is leaving shortly for Wellington. Eulogistic reference- to the high esteem in which Mr Boyd was held was made by several of those present, and the guest of the evening was presented by the Rev. Ashcroft with a eoatly travelling rug.
