NATIONAL PROVIDENT FUND.
Evidence is not wanting that the National Provident scheme int.rad>uced' by Sir Joseph Ward a few years back with a- 'beaibJn-g of drumSj is : failing flat. Notwithstanding that lecturers and canvacsers have been seat round the. country, the total, (revenue cf the Fund last' year was only £1862 13s 4d. The expenses ctf management totalled £B2B B,s Bd, or 55 per cent, of the contributed income. For some reason' or' another, the people* of /the country have viewed the .scheme with suspicion. And the fact that 55 per cent, of the contributions is eaten, up in management expenses ie". ot -likely to 'popularise the Fund. This piece of "humaiiitiairiaiv' legislation; is not likely to. gain (for its anther any considerable amou/nit cif kudos.
