DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION SITTING ENDS IN UPROAR.
(Received Last Night, 10.40 o'clock.)
BALTIMORE, June 26
Mr W. J. Bryan, when proposing Mr J. W. Kern as Chairman of the Democratic Convention, said the country was waiting to hear whether the Convention would follow the Chicago Convention in listening to the voice of predatory wealth. The same interest which had converted "the Chicago Convention into a farce was more brazenly working in Baltimore. Mr Kern appealed to Judge Parker to co-operate in selecting a compromise Chairman, otherwise Mr Bryan would contest it.
Judge Parker returned thanks for his election, as 'temporary Chairman. He was congratulating the meeting, noon its superior orderliness over the Chicago meeting, when an uproar abruptly terminated the, sitting.
In view of the two-thirds majority required for nominations, it is significant that Parker nor Mr Brvan controls the Convention.
Mr Roosevelt's agents at Baltimore are seeking to induce Mr Bryan, in the event of defeat, to join forces with the Rooseveltites. The Convention would then be confronted with; the of conciliating the Radicals:
Another report states . tKat Mr' Ohamp Clark is now favoured as the Democratic candidate for the Presidency.
