Mr G. A. Simmers, headmaster of the Timaru Boys' High School, has resigned his position on jjio ground of ill health. His medical adviser has recommended a sea trip and a long rest. —Association. Mr W. A. D'Arcy, produce manager of the Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., at Wanganui, is at present on a visit to Masterton. Mr G. R. Syk'es, M.P., left Masterton for Wellington yesterday afternoon, to attend tlie caucus of the Opposition Party. A Press Assoeiation message fromAuckland states.that sympathy has been expressed from one end of the. colony to the other with the relatives of the late Sir John Logan Campbell, and the acting-Mayor has received many official telegrams condoling with the city in the loss of its mosthonoured citizen. Lady Campbell has among a host of condolences, received, messages of sympathy: from His Excellency the Governor and Lady Islington, the Prime Minister and Sir Joseph Ward. Lieut.-Col. Beauchamp, who-; returned from England on Saturday, will at once proceed to the South Island, to take charge of the 'Otago Military District. Colonel Smyth*, at present in charge of the Otago district, will have command of• the .Canterbury district. Colonel Logan has" been appointed to the command of theAuckland district. —Press Associations Lieut.-Col. D. Pringle, 6th Manawatu Mounted Rifles, will command the Wellington Mounted Rifle Brigade during the absence, on leave, of Col. A. H. Russell, A.D.C. Mr C. P. -Lindegreen, North Island organiser for the Reform Party, left Hastings yesterday with his wife and family for Wellington, which in future will be his headquarters, ;,, • ■ Mr D. M.
