MR DEAKIN S TRENCHANT CRITICISMS OF GOVERNMENT METHODS. (Received Last Night, 10.10 o'clock.) MELBOURNE, June 21. In the Federal House of Representatives, the Hon. Alfred Deakin, deader of the Opposition, trenchantly 'covered the) pdi-nits contaii-ned ill. his censure motion. Referring to the Coal Vend,, he said that the Government had full power to prosecute Trusts. They should not lose a moment in obtaining :i High Court judgment oh such an all-important matter. Touching on the strikers, Mr Deakin said ..that the Government ■name into power pledged to secure industrial peace. It had done nothing .to fulfil tlnait pl'cdee. Its -effoirbs, in*stead of allaying disputes, had fomented them. The only outlook for peace was in the direction of profitsharing and co-operation. Pending the adoption of this, the best thing would be a non-political Commission to deal with business questions. He severely condemned the action of the Government over the Brisbane strike. He could not congratulate the Government on its refusal of the assistance asked by the Queensland Government, which would not have led to disaster. If those responsible for the rising had been confronted with representatives of the Commonwealth, they would immediately have given way. The Government's attitude in the matter Avas a black mark on the Commonwealth's history.
