A LAND BUREAU.
Speaking at WhangeteJ the other evening, the Hon. T. Mackenzie stated that if he 'remained in office— the use of the AvoVd "if" is. .significant at this junic'tiure—he would endeaivour 1-; establish a central land bureau, Avhere. a registrar of any property for sale, with full details, wbuld be left for the benefit of intending puirchneors. This .is a-very nice scheme, ira its Avay. But hoAv many people Avail availl themselves of it unices it is properly advertised ? Wbat does .the Land Department do at the present time? -It opens blocks' of land for sale in various pa.rts v of the country, and lets nobody outside the district knoAV anything atoult it until the sale is oveir. Why does the Department not do the right thimlg, and advertise its ballots in; the leading neAATspapea's of the Dominion ?
