...... JiONDON, June 15. .-The Daily Mail's Chicago correspondent states that never before lias a President appeared personally to urge bin own claims. The Republican's-'fate now .rests with a hundred negro delegates, whose sole political privilege, limited to' voting at' the Convention, they were delegated traditionally. The Democratic Southern States have instructed their delegates to vote for Mr Taft, but Mr Roosevelt's managers have stated that the negro headquarters are being regaied in chicken, drinks and cigars. Mr Taffc's managers are adopting the same methods. Negroes wearing hlack coats, gor-geous-ties, .and patent leather shoes, are ocsillating between both hotels, unperturbed by the charge of bribery levelled at them. One, it is said, refused a Taftite's bribe of eight hundred dollars. NEW YORK, Juno 15. Chicago papers reports that tht> probability of a compromise between the candidates in the Republican ranks is denied by both sides. President Taft is continuing to gain delegates. There was' tremendous enthusiasm oyer Mr Roosevelt's arrival in order to protest against the committee's methods. Mr Taffc's supporters declare that Mr Roosevelt is making a vast effort to overt defeat. Mr Taft'has now secured 159 votas, and-Mr Roosevelt 9.

Mr Taft is likely to enter the Convention with >a- bare majority. 1
