APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE* ! A PECULIAR POSITION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) THAMES, Last Night. In connection wl'oti the Waihi Miners' strike, the Thr.rjcs Miners' Union executive met to consider an application from the lvarangaliake* (branch to vote a sum towards "assisting the (strikers. The position is~ eiamciwhat peculiar. The Thames Miners' Union is registered under tha Arbitration Act, and has just entered into an agreement drawn up in friendly conference with the, mining companies. The Karati'jrahake branch of tihte Union sympathies with the strike, but the majority of the Thames Miners oppose it. Kairangahake favours Thames opposes this. At the meeting •it was pointed out that there was a. joining the Federation of Labour, hut doubt as to whether the TliameS Union*, being registered' under the Act, ■could abet a strike or assist- tho strikers. After discussion, .the meeting decided to take a legal opinion. The. meeting wars not open' to the Press. LATER.
