HAWERA WINTER SHOW. PAHIATUA WINS A PRIZE FOR CHEESE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HAWERA, Last Night. The third annual-Dominions Dairy Show was opened this 'afternoon by Mr G. V. Pearce, M.P., in the unavoidable absence of the Premier. The entries total. 12Q8, ias against 1169 last year. There is a remarkably fine exhibition of cheese, .a good exhibition of butter, and also a splendid display by the Agricultural Department. The prizes in dairy factory cheese and butter classes were nearly all carried ofF by the Kaponga and Kaupokonui factories (Taramaki). The championship awards were: —Cheese: Kaponga Dairy Co. (Rowan branch), 95A points, 1; Kaupokonui, 95 points, 2; Ngaere, 94 points, 3. Butter: Bell Block, 953.points, 1; Mangorei and Molls, each 95 points. The Mangaramara-ma (Pahiatua) factory won in the class for best case of cheese for export, and the Levin Company that for the best box of butter for export. FOOTBALL. INTER-PROVINCIAL MATCH. e'

HAWERA, Last Night
A football match between Taranlaki and Wellington was today at Haiwera. A line game resulted in 'favour of Wellington by 12 points to 10. Kinvig (3) and Elliott scored tries for Wellington, 'and Dewair and Stohr .scored for' Tarjmaki. S'tchr converted both tries. There, was a large attendance of the public. The Borough Council election today resulted in the sretum of Mess* Liffiton and Kinucker. . A proposal to raise a loan of £7CJ for the building of a reservoir was carried. The funeral of the late VViki Kemp took place this afternoon. \j?heire was a fairly large attendance of Europeans despite the fact that the date of the funeral came as a surprise. Many of the .visiting natives leave in the morning for Hawke's Bay, where a<n--ot'her tangi is in progress. HOUSE DESTROYED. AT NEW PLYMOUTH. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. A two-storey house tat Fitzroy', owned by Mr H. M.-Sheet, Commissioner of Crown Lands at Auckland, and occupied by Harman Brown; was destroyed by fire to-night. The buildwas an old historic, landmark. The in-sur-aince, is not available, but it is understood there is £4OO on the furniture in the National office. NEW ZEALAND RUGBY NNION. MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. The management committee of tileNew Zealand Rugby Union met tills evening. The South Canterbury Un l wrote declining to take part in the country teams tour. The numerical representation of the South Island' Unions was amended so as to make
the deficiency. The discovery has been rcade of another lifebuoy from the Sydney Harbour Trust's suction dredge ManChester. •'■Mr William of Kohe Kohe, states that his son picked up a lifebuoy marked "iS. D. Manchester, LytWlton," about seven or i eight miles south of the Manukau heads, and about a milo from the spot where the previous buoy Was discovered on June sth by Mr Meilde, of Pollock.
