A .report has been received from Tweed Heads to tihe effect that the tug Bearer passed northwards early this morning, lowing the ' steamer Timaru, which sprung a leak a day or two ago. 'LOSS BY DROUGHT. AN ESTIMATE. . (Received July 12, 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 12. A pastoral expert estimates that five million sheep perished in New ■ South Wales during the drought just ended. Others will proha.bly succumb to weakness. This .represents a shortAge of 190,000 bales of wool, of the value of £2,280,000, to .which £870,000 has to be added for the loss of lambs. An expedition to the Kikoripurari coal .finds in .Papua reports that the seam is narrow and.of inferior quality. Owing to the natural features and other obstacles, the find is of little commercial value. Immense petroleum, deposits, with great posibilities, were discovered. BILLIARDS. REECE VISITS AUSTRALIA. Fisher, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth, states that his recent remarks are not to be taken as an announcement of the Federal policy.
