A CHRISTCHURCH PROPOSAL.
'A Chrisrtcburch proposal that is local in its initiaition but is of interest to the taxpayers .of the Dominion..as a 'whole has again been made, to the Government hy a deputation from the soultiherii city. Briefly it is that, the site on which the old Canterbury Provincial 'Buildings stand, and the 'buildings as well, sbbiild he presented ■to .the City Corporation. Similar applications made while Sir Joseph Ward was 'Prime Minister were promptly refused, and apparently the present one wi'H meet a similar ifate. If the isite is presented as asked for, it will simply mean that the Government will have to .find anqt'her £20,'OOO or £30,000 to buy further la'nd in iChristchurch for public buildings., and v there will be ,so nruch less for the more 'necessary works in the backblocks.
