Contract No. 281: Delivering I cnb - yds- metal, let on 20th ulfc., has not yet, been, commenced, hut tire contractor is now ready to proceed when the weather permits. Matahiwi, Upper Plain, Upper Opaki and branch roads. Contract No 282 • Delivering 1130 cub. yds. of metal.— The contractor informs mo that ho will be ready to start about the 13th inst. Tiro road fencing through the Kopi;,aranga railway reserve is about completed.

Waingawa protective 'works. —The work of strengthening the groyne is proceeding, and would have been finished but for the intermittent freshes during the past month. i I purpose mending the weak portions of the Toad north of the Waingawa while the drays are in the neighbourhood. A groyne protecting the ford giving approach to South road, was somewhat disturbed by the recent floods, and it has .been necessary to add some more stone .to x he groyne for the safety of the road. Stronvar Road. (Govt. Gt.) —Two fillings over culverts on the Stronvar-Waikarak-a road have been finished.

In accordance with instructions from the Council, I have located a deviation at the Devil's Elbow on the M aste rton-Wa im at a road, and will prepare plana for same. UPPER TAUERU RIDING—

As instructed, I am hping tho points on the To Ore Ore-Bideford and Maungapurupuru roads cut back.

ALFREDTON RIDING.—

Castle "Hill Road.—Metal repairs have been carried out on the A.lfredton Nga Rata section of the road by hired teams.
