The fifth was fatal to Hnrtigan, who was caught by Foster in the slips off Barnes, 'having failed to score. —One for 2. Nourse was the next man in. Taylor got leg-bet'oro in Barnes' second over. —Two for 3. Sawdiisfc was now brought into requisition. The fielding was close. Llewellyn, the nest batsman, made a lucky snick for four off Barnes. Then he was beaten by Barnes, but tho ball missed tho wickcfc. A few minutes later Nourse succumbed to a yorker from Foster. ' Ho was the only double lig- j ure scorer, his innings lasting thirty j minutes. —Three for 28. Faulkner filled the vacancy. Llewellyn, in trying to drive Foster, was bowled by a'shooter. The partnership added only seven runs —Faulkner six. —Four for 35. t ' Snooke was the incoming batsman. Faulkner added a single, and in Foster's .next over was bowled. The partnership added one. The batsmen wore always in difficulties, and the bowlers 1::h1 the assistance of the wicket, and were masters of the situation .—Five for 36. Mitchell filled the vacancy, and was' nearly bowled by Barnes' first ball, four byes resulting. He then scored a single by the tamest possible stroke. He returned an easy catch to Barnes. —Six for 42. Schwar/ camo next, 'and off the first ball lie survived a confident appeal for leg-before to Barnes. Three had been added when Snooke was out-played by Barnes. —Seven for 45. Pegler filled the vacancy. Schwarz ' was caught in tlie slips by Foster, oft Barnes. —Eight for 54. Campbell, the last man, saw three added when Peglex's middle stump was uprooted by Foster, and the innings closed for 58, scored in e:ghtyfivo minutes. ENGLAND AT THE WICKETS.

The wicket was soaked by the incessant rain and play was delayed. After lunch, as the rain recommenced, it was decided not to play to-day.
