THE HIGH COMMISSIONERSHIP.
The opinion is rapidly gaining ground throughout the Dominion that there its only owe man in the race fo : r 'the High iCommiseionership, and* that iman is the, Hon. T. Mackenzie. It is stated with confidence in some quarters that Mr Mackenzie anticipates defeat, and that he is hoping t u ■'• the Reform Party will place no obstacle in the way'of his going to London. The Southland News, which reputedly has the ear of Sir Joseph Ward, strengthens this view by the publication of the following: "Mr Mackenzie has a claim to the "High Com'miiS-sionership and any Government might appoint liim to" the position without drawing upon itself adverse criticism. That lie aspires to itflie London office is generally known,, 'but we are- quite safe in. saying tat the gift will never 'come from liis own Cabinet, either in prosperity or adversity.
