The Daily Mail says that the Malta Conference decided that owing to the necessity for concentrating in the North Sea, the naval and military policy ini the Mediterranean must change. A plan has been adopted, subject to the Imperial Defence Committee's ap •prpval, and proposes to add modem fcitbleships'to the present'weak squadron of cruisers in the Mediterranean, and to -make some arrangement /whereby France will share the responsibility of the protection of British interests an the Mediterranean. 'No formal alliance is contemplated.
