ONE FARTHING DAMAGES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Last Night. Tlio.'action of Stagpoole v. Nash and Coombe, of the Manaiawtu Standard, for £IOOO damages, for label in the publication of the statement of the defence in- tho plaintiff's case against Pirani aad Co., in which the latter claimed justification, was heard before Mr Justice Cliaprr.cn and a jury oF twelve to-day. Mr 0. A. Louj-hnan appealed for the plaintiffs, and Sir John Findlay for tho defendants. , , After hearing evidence and the addresses of counsel, the jury returned a verdict , for the plaintiff, one farthing damages. His Honour declined to allow •costs.
