SERIES OF ACCIDENTS
(By Telegraph—Tress Association.) CARTERTON, Last Night. A chapf. r of accidents occurred last night when people were returning ironi the Creytowri trots. First a gij: owned by Mr Hercock. of Kokotau, overturned.and the occupants were precipitated heavily ®n.to the road, but no. one was hunt. Next a three-horse drag was crossing the Black Bridge when the horses shied, and jammed the wheels to the side of the bridge*. The driver, Tom Shaw, controlled the horses, and proceeded to descend from his seat when he slipped and fell through the side of the bridge to the river bed —<a drop of nearly twenty feet. In the excitement and bustle of the passengers moving in the coach Shaw was not missed for half an .homy and when found he was suffering severely from shock and bruises. No bones were bro.ken, however, and ho was removed to Iris home in a motor-car. The drag had both poles broken, iand had to be left on the roadside.
The third'accident occurred to Mr B. Wad ham's motor car, which, when returning to Clareville, ran into two trotting horses—his own. Todd Bells, and Mr W. Redmond's Sonny. The farmer was in a sulky, .and the other was .being led behind. Wadham could not see them until foe was right upon them, and crashed right into the sulky, missing the front horse. The horse which was -being led became scared, and jumped across the road .and met the ' car, sustaining very severe wounds in the chest and front ■lecr S one wound necessitating twenty stitches being put in. The sulky and car were damaged. Mr Wadham was severejv bruised in the chest, and sustained two broken ribs. He was taken Ito his home, and is now progressing I satisfactorily.
