SATURDAY'S MATCHES. The Wairarapa Rng'by Union's championship fixtures were continued oil Saturday afternoon. The weather was very unfavourable, rain failing previous fb t!he matches, which inaclo the grounds very sloppy. The games resulted as follow: SENIOR. RED STARI (15) v. GREYTOWN (3). At Mastertonl, the Red Star and I Greytown teams met. Owing to the ' heavy nature of tfhe ground, play was [ confined chiefly to the forwards. A ! battle royal cnisued l>etween the two : packs, but gradually t'lie Stars, 'gatiliI ering comlbi'natioiii, «btsiin«l the upper i liand, and in the second spell non- [ plussed their opponents by the consistency and vigour of their attacks. I In thvj last part of the game the Greytown vanguard was a well beaten pack, and the home forwards were easily the superiors cf the-opposing fironit division, beating them in all departments, espe:-iailly in loose rushes. It was the splendid pfay cf their forwards that placed victory to the credit of the Stars, and it was certainly n-ot a day that lenlfc itlse'.f to a good exhibition of bade play. The 'ball was heavy and greasy, and the ground slippery. At times a .few .parsing rushes were indulged in, but there was nothing of a .very special nature owing to the weather con<Miom Greytown backs were called upon tb defend more than Stars. In the .first spell E. Williams and D. R'o&s scored tries for | Stars, And 0. Skeet for Grey town, while in ithe : second spell A. Millar (2) wnd D'v Roa& (registered tries for the Stars. Tin the ( second spell matters -were more equal, 'but tilie ground was in a very miuddy state, and the ball 'being greasy and wet, play was confined to the forwards entirely. Master ton forwards wea-e ' packing well, and Snackirton headed several vei*y good rushes, w3iiclx kept Itih'e yel'lcw and blaick backs busy for a time. G/RETTOWN (o) Oarteirtf.ii defeated Gtrey town at.. Carterton by six points (a try and a . penalty .goal) to :a coniverted try. LIBERAL (18) v. RED STAR, (0). The Liberal blub had the best of j the game throughout, and in the second ,spell had every,tilling their own | way. The final score was 18 points to nil. THIRD CLASS. BED STAR (6) v. CARTERTON (0). This game was contested at the Master toil'grounds, and was very even throughout, aTtlioaigili the Carterton backs were no match for the Red Star rearguard. For the Avinners S. Hoar and L. Yates scored. ) LIBERAL (9) v. MASTERTON (3). TToera'ls defeated Masterton, at Car-tel-toil, by 9tb 3. H. Jones scored for Masterton. WAIRARAPA RUGBY UNION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. The fortnightly meeting of the above Committee was held at Carterton on Saturday evening last. Mr A. Booth Avians elected chairman for the* ensuing season. From Liberal .Olub (Featherston), asking permission' to play a match on June 3rd with the Wellington Telegraph CM>.— Permission granted. From (secretary Masterton Friendly Societies' Council, asking what date the Uri'i-on could ailo-t for the annual seveu-ia-side tournament to be held n't Carterton thiis year.— Decided that 'owing to the lateness in commencing the fixtures this season, owing to various causes, the Union could not fix 'a date at present, 'but it would probably be at the end of the second round of senior fixtures.
