HIGH COMMISSIONER
ALLEGED CABINET DISCUSSION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Last Night. The Herald- states that it is understood that a meeting of Cabinet was held recently to discuss the appointment of a successor to Sir William Hall-Jones, High Commissioner, and proposals were irade in favour of Sir John Find lay and the Hoai. Roderick McKenzie. Mr R. McKenzie received six votes, and Sir-John Findlay two. Mr R. McKenzie was unofficially acquainted of the decision of Cabinet, but the following day he was told that it had been revoked 'and that the Government had deferred t'be appointment indefinitely. The reason for this attitude was, it is stated, that tho Prime Minister objected to the appointment and threatened to resign if it was made.
Tho Hon. G. W. Russell, when asked if he could say anything about the position, said he could say nothing. An authoritative statement regarding tho position could only come from the Prime ■ Minister, but as Parliament would not meet till towards the end of the month a meeting of Cabinet to consider the position would probably 'go held shortly.
