'JW has oeen compelled to resign thechargn of .Manga re, in. the Auckland district. It is the intention of Mr McDonald to return to Scotland*, Another old identity of Masterton, in the person of Mrs Caroline Henrietta, Rockel, relict of the late Mr J. G. Rockel, passed away on Saturday at the great age of aiinety-two years. The deceased lady leaves two daughters (Mrs J. B. Keith and Miss Rockel). The late Mr J. G. Rocket was at one time owner; of Miatahiwi station. The remains of the late Mrs Rockel were interred tn the Mastertori cemetery yesterday.
Mr "Jack" Clarke,, son of Mr G.H. Clarke, of Kopnaranga:,. Masterton, who recently went to the Old Cotintrv, has enlisted in the Royal Horse Artillery. ■

The death occurred at the Souths Wairara.pa Hospital on Saturday afternooin of Mr P. A. Erickson,. of Carterton. Deceased was removed; there a few days ago suffering firam % paralytic seizure. He had been a resident of Carterton for over thirty years, amd had carried on the business, of a roach-builder. Deceased had na relatives .in the Dominion. He was a member of the Carterton Lodge of Oddfellows. The interment takes placeat the dareville Cemetery this afternoon.
Mr James McMxitrie died: at Ross last week, aged 96. He was a native of Ayrshire, Scotland, and' had lived in Ross since that town first- sprang into existence.
Mr Anton Naunestad, who was.a resident of Wellington for a number of years, died last Thursday on boarif ship, while travelling amongst thesislands for the benefit of Iris healths-
