Mr J. Prendeville, Town Clerk of Eketohuna, was a visitor to Master--ton yestarday. Mr James Harvey, who has been for many years identified with the Stock Department, but who was recently retired, is at present a visitor to Masterton. Mr R. B. Ross, ex-M.P. for Pahiatua, is shortly to be "socialled" at Woodville. A Melbourne cable announces the death of His Lordship Bishop Corbett, Roman Catholic Bishop of Sale, after an operation. A pretty wedding was solemnised by the Rev. A. T. B. Page, at St. Luke's Church, Greytown, yesterday afternoon, when Mr Harold Goodin, youngest son of Mr E. Gooding of Park Road, Carterton (and the popular proprietor of the local "Cycle Hospital") was united in the bonds of holy wedlock to Miss Ruby Davis, second daughter of Mr John Davis, an old and highly respected resident of Greytown. A very pretty native wedding was solemnised at Kohunui on Monday afternoon, the contracting parties being Miss Pirena Arapapa Piripi Te Maari, third daughter of Mr Arapata Piripi Te Maari, of Kohunui, Lower Valley, and Mr Te Ao ("Joe'), only son of Mr and Mrs Tutu Te Whaiti "Pukewhinau," Kohunui. Both parties are well-known throughout the Wairarapa. The Mayor of Napier, Mr J. Vigor Brown, M.P., was met last night by a large gathering of workers and friends and presented with a handsome shield, in recognition of the energy he has displayed in connection with the district. The scrolls which bear the inscription quote the turning of the first sod of the East Coast railway, and smaller shields mounted on the base show the dates of various elections at which Mr Brown was successful. Mrs Brown was presented with a silver flower stand and pair of vases. —Press Association. The Hon. T. Mackenzie (Prime Minister) will deliver a policy speech at Opunake this evening. Sir Joseph Ward is to be presented with an illuminated address at Wellington to-night. The Hon. J. A. Millar will be entertained by his constituents at Dunedin this evening. Mr J. G. Wilson has been re-elected President of the Wellington Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. Among those appointed to the Executive yesterday are Messrs Hugh Morrison (Masterton), W. B. Matheson (Eketahuna), H. A. Nevins (Tinui) and T. Hodgins (Palnatua). Mr C. Madsen, part proprietor of the Marlborough Press, is at present on a visit to Masterton. The death is reported from Nelson of the Rev. John Crump, a veteran Methodist minister, at the age of 84 years. Deceased was father of Mr T. B. Crump, solicitor, now of Eltham, but formerly of Masterton. Mr W. Dicken has been appointed ranger to the Mauriceville County Council.
