DEARTH OF TEACHERS
IN SOUTH ISLAND. (By Telegraph—Press Acsooiation.) TIMAAU, Last Night. At ,the Education Board meeting today, the chairman said tfhat the (scarcity of teachers was (becoming more pronounced. The iWaimate school was two teachers short, and teachers were needed for four or five country schools, but ,so far the Board had been unable, to obtain 'them. To-day tlhuee applications came in for four cf these country schools: i The ■(Board declined to take any steps to assist .the officers in recruiting telegraph messengers; and cadet?. A .member remarked tihat too many boys sought town employments now;, and he iwc.uld not .encourage the picking out of the beet .boys for the town when intelligent boys were .so imuc-h wanted on the farms. Another said that tliey would be reducing their dhances of getting good pupil teachers. The secretary stated .that telegraph boys were better paid than pupil teachers.
