WELLINGTON EDUCATION BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. There was a full attendance at the meeting of the Wellington Education Board yesterday. The (Chairman (Mr R. Lee) repoited a debit balance at date of £364 17s lid, compared with £lOl4 6s 6d last month.
Resolutions in reference to the appointment of a headmaete/r at the Greytown. District High School were <received./Ji'om' the Mayor, of • .(key-r town. lit iwas decided to communicate with -the District "High 'School Committeebefore..,sendhig a reply.
It was resolved to apply fdr a grant /for the-erection pf a. school residence at Tiaraitahi West.
A request from the Taueru School Committee ifor an inoreased playground .was 'referred' to the member's for the Wiairarapa Ward for a report.
On the .motion of Mr J. Kebbell, it wa« decided to protest against the proposed re-erection of the licensed hou&e at WeHa'roa on a t&ite nearer Levin and adjacent to the Board's •school.
It was resolved to proceed with the exchange of a reserve at Nirealia for a'isohool site ift Silverstream.
The- Inspeotors reported that it was undesirable at present to erect >a sohool at Gsstlepoint, the school at Whakataki ibeing considered! sufficient to imoet the requirements.
The ißcard decided that it coukKnot sac. its way clear to instal ,ga.s throughout the Masterfon District High School,, as in no other sohool in the education district is such an installation made.
Grants for Wairarapa schools were made as 'follow: Alfrediton, hob water, £ls 10s; Ta-ureu, fencing, repairs, etc., £l6 10s; Konini, repairs to ftraplacee, £2 10s; Kaiwaiwai, residence alterations, £l4 10s; Masterton, repairs to cisterns, etc., infant school, •£3 7i9 6d; Eketa'lrana, increas„of shelter .sheds,' £24 ; .Fernridge, (papering of residence, £11; Ha r mua ; ,' fence,' etc. 1 , £l7 10s; Mauricewlile W&Sfti, fencing repairs, £1 06,' Scarborough, cleaning cones for tanks £1 ilOs; Kai.paTp.ro, repairs and.-paiii.t-' ingroof, £4 ss; Newman, overhauling des"k»; Pntara, concreting floor of school, £4; .Cross Creek, new site, glazing, £1 10s; Martinborough, hallf oast of conveniences; Dyer, shelter gneds and urinal, £7.

The pronosJal for the removal of the school ,at Ma.ta>hiwi and the utilisation of a residence in 'the meantime was approved. ;
Consideration of the question of procuring a new site at Miki Miki was deferred, (pending further information..
The Chairman was authorised to execute, a lease in regard'to the Papawad school.
■lt was decided that the gallery . in the infant department at Cartea-ton 'be removed. "
The Inspector's recommendation in regard to the infant departments at ■Carterton and Oeytown was approved.
iForty-two applications were received for the position of head teacher' of the Island Bay school, and four names of country teachers wore selected to be sent on to the .Committee.
