WATERSIDE WORKERS
THE PROBABILITY OF A GENERAL STRIKE.

AUCKLAND, Last Night
The Secrotary of the Waterside Workers' Union deiiied, at s> meeting held tliis morning, that it considered questions of levy or cessation of work, owing to the iWaihi strike. The. Union considered a telegram firom''=Mr Can-, hatm, the Union's .representative at the Federation of (Labour -Conference in Wellington, and decided by a majority of 96 votes iio instruct their delegate (to act in accordance with; his judgment. The secretary says .that teteps wore taken to notify the shipping authorities of the meeting, and .that it was not the Union's intention Ito delay 'shipping. Tho members of •the Union state that Mr Caiibani's iteliegraim was a request for instructions as to how he should vote upon any 'proposal put before .the conference 'to call a general strike af the Unions affiliated .to tho Federation.
