TARANAKI CONFERENCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HAWERA,, Last Niglht The 'annual Taranaki P'rovineial Conference cf the Farmers' Union was (held to-day. Mr iR. Ltumbie, the Preiident, in- the course of his address, said that in ipolitkis ithiei Union _ was not a party machine. Candidates were only asked whether they support,ed the Union's .platform. Thfy .welre itevd" xisked avhet'hsr tHiey were a Government ,or Opposition supporter. A li'umber of .remits were -passed for the tDnminion Conference, including the following:— That the Valuation of Lands Act be so altered as .to .permit of all improvements, of whatever nature, made to land, also a capital value on a five per cent, basis of any special irates paid on surih land for roading, etc., being reckoned as improwmrtnts; that all Native land shall be >placed on the same footing for taxation '.purposes:, both local ami ceilera'l, as land held by Europeans, all lands not (required for the. Natives' Owil "'iiisve- to (be purchased by the, Goveirinimient and leased with a right of purchase. The Conference also carried resolutions urging the <3ovemiment to support the bringing into the Diominio.il; of suitable farm labour, the mec'sissity Ifor the Government providing more .rolling stock ,fer railways, .so as to better .provide 4or the requirements of farmers and the public generally.
