The match between Australia and the Marylebone Chub commenced today. Phillip Mead replaced A. E. Relf in the M.C.C. team as published yesterday. W. A. Carkoek, J. W. McLaren, I). Smitlli mid C. B. Jennings were omitted from the Australian, team. The weather was good .when play commenced. Tlio attendance numbered 5000.
Tllio bowling was entrusted to Emery and Minnett. Tiie batsmen opened flu Icily, Fry playing two dangerous strokes in the first over and Douglas being twice nearly caught from rising balls. Fry succumbed to a low iball which came fast off the pitch, and Douglass was taken at second slip.—Two for 85. The ball was kicking occasionally.
