MR SNAZELLE.

The death is announced of S'nazelle, the well-known Variety entertainer.
(Smazelle visited Masterton about twenty years ago, and gave an entertainment entitled "Music, Song and Story.") LORD STALBRIDCE. Rteceived This Morning, 12.10 o'clock. LONDON, May 19. The death is announced of Lord Stalbridge', P-C, Chairman of the London and North-Western Railway, and second son of the late Marquis of Westminster, at the age of. 75 years. MR W. L. LEES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, Last Night. Tihe death occurred on Saturday of Mr W. L. Biees, hamster and solicitor, aged 76 years. The deceased •was a well-known political figure 1 the Dominion in the seventies and eighties, wihen he was elected to the Provincial Council. When Sir George Grey became Superintendent of the Provinces, he became Provincial! Solicitor. On the abolition of the Provinces in 1876, he successfully contested the Auckland East seat dur- 1 ing the Piremierslhip of 'Sir George Girey. He was offered the AttorneyGeneralship, but declined. Dmring 1879 he came to G<isborne, where his 'headquarters were afterwards fixed. He unsuccessfully contested elections 'here. He then returned North, and was elected member for the City df Auckland in 189.1. The late Mr Rees was Chairman of the Native Laud Laws Commission, and also held the office of Chairman of Committees. During his life 'he made a name dor himself in the fields of literature.
