Bird won the toss, and Hobbs and Hayward opened to Whifcty and Emery. On resuming, Hayes skied Whitty to Bardsley at third man, and was caught.—s—l4—33. Bird and Harrison stopped the rot, the former by vigorous play and the latter by careful cricket. Bird ondrove Hazlitt for a sixer, and later hit Emery to tho top of the pavilion. They brought the total to a century in 120 minutes. Bird, who had scored 76 in 110 minutes, was smartly stumped. He hit two sixers and ten fourers. The partnership added 98 runs in 100 minutes. .
