ACTION TO BE TAKEN. At yesifcerday's meeting of the Mas'tenton? CHiamibor of Commerce, Mr G. C Sunwnerell moved: — ! 1. That steps be taken- to place bo-' stf«re <th© Hon. Minister for Public •Wanks the importance of the Master-4da-WaipukuTaui railway line, and a committee be set up to prepare the fact© in. favour of the Masterton<W*wpu.kurau route. 2. That theseeopetary be instructed to comimuniicate ■-with the Minister for Public Works liiim that a deputation favouring this 1 route will wait upon him .at an early date. 3. That the Secretary be instructed to communicate with (the secretary of the Railway -League at Pongaroa, advising him olf ibe above resolution, ami asking him •to assist in the matter of giving full information from the League's point of view. Speaking to the resolution', which was seconded by M.r Graham, the dhaLrman (Mr DaWieffl) stated that the Oharaiber had gone Co a lot of expense •an securing a trial survey of the route. A. great deal of information was available, and he had no doubt an excellent case couild be made out to go before the Minister. Mr James Brown stated that the only means of opening up the backMocks, was by railway, a,s smpiroouraible. He did not agree with an ex-Minister that settlement should precede railways. He thought the railways should be used to afford an. o;i':let. to the back country. ' The resolution 1 was carried unanim*rasJy, and a committee consisting of ifce Preeulentt, Vice-President, audi lieesrs D..M. Giratbam and J. Brown ! set up to give effect to the moiion.
