Lord Mersey's award for the Northn ml>erlimd Oolcilia-t-ion Board fixes the minimnm rates for underground workers in Northumberland .mines as follow : : —Day workers, 4s 9d; piece"workers, ijs 8d; boys, 2s to 3s 6d (according to age); .putters, 4s; and deputy hewers and enginemen, 5s Gd. The hewers -claimed from Gs 3d to 7s '9d.
