LOCAL GOVERNMENT BILL
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) ' j TIMARU, Last Night. A:t a meeting of the .South Canterbury local bodies delegates to-dav, Messrs W. G. Maslin and C. N. OYbell were appointed to. attend the Wellington Conference on the Local Government Bill. A resolution was passed that while improvements in the present lav.s would be appreciated, the Bill was not .not acceptable, and its adoption would increase the cost and lessen the efficiency of local-government. The inclusion of the Waitaki County in the South Canterbury Province was said to be a strange thing, r.s\ there was practically nothing# what- 1 over in common. The Chairman of the meeting (Mr R. Gillingham) condemned the who'e measure as undemocratic and in no way acceptable. Others said tlhat hospital and education management must suffer if the Bill was adopted.
