OTTAWA, May

A Commission 3ms reported on • thepending merger of the Bank of Montreal and the Union Bank. Afterwards the Bank ,of Montreal is likely to amalgamate with the Royal Bank of Canada. If consummated, the merger will probably 'be tihe largest in the history of banking. Sir Thomas Shaughnessy, head of the Canadian-Pacific Railway Company, is spoken of as likely to be chairman of the amalgamated banks.
