THURSDAY COMPETITIONS. The- championship matches commenced yesterday afternoon., when several' matches, senior and junior, '.wcrta played,' and although the first 'important games' of the" season, comeisplendid hockey: was witnessed. The matches resulted to follows: SENIOR. P. AND T. v. FEATHEiRSTON. This match was played at Featherston, and a splendidly contested match resulted in P. and T. g&ining the verdict iby ( °- goals to 1. In the first spell' Featherston had undoubtedly, the best of ' matter si, and' had their opponents a good deal on..the defensive, and 'it was only the good play of the P. and ,T. hacks, that saved the situation. In the second spe I ]], however, the P. and.T. men livened. up considerably, and played with a (dash and combination! which told its lowh tale,, 4i,ncl it was only fixe faulty shooting of the forwards that .prevented a' bigger score being run up.
