ST. MATTHEW'S PARISH

WELCOME SO! lAL. 'A social was held in St. Matthew's Schoolroom last evening, to welcome *he Rev. B'. D. Asiheroft, B.A. About one hundred .parisbir/ners were ..present, and a very 'sociable evening was spent. ■ The .chairman (the Ifev. H. Williiams), in his opening remarks.' welcomed the Rev. A.shcroft as Ms assistant. He emphasised the need of a. strong graduated young man, and in Mir Ashcroft "lie lihcugjbt the parish lhad secured, tb? servrk-s of such a one.

On behalf of the CbuirchwaVdens, .Messrs E. K. Wadclingtcn and Blackl man also welcomed Mr Ashcroft. Mr ißll'ackman' .stated ithat the.parishioners were indebted to the O.E.M.S. for arTan.g'ng itihe evening's entertainment, and thanked the Society on behalf of the parish'. Mr W. Denby ireplied on. behalf of *he .O'.E.M.S., a'nd .stated that he Jh!oped'.that their asscciatnon with the {Rev. Aslhcroft would be a long and miemorab!!© one. ' The (Rev. Ashcroft, in a brief and nppropiriate speech ,tihaniked all for their weM-wli'shes, .and asked for the combined an?:stance of the parish.
