THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES. The current programme at the Foresters' Hall drew a packed house la.S't I oveni.ng. The audience were delighted | Jlvatlh the pictiui'cis shown., and were I'iavieh im their praise of them. The I present programme contains a number of a new series of photo plays. [These piciiures represent the product of a new departure iin manufacturing methods, whereby first-class dramatic artists tafce the. leading parts instead oif the more or less adventitious artists which have been hurriedly "linked into shape.'' These photo plays have each a caste which represents the best dramatic talent of the United •States-, and consequently the pictures iia-ve a finish whicii is lacking in the ccmmloner variety ot film, drama. 01 these new dramas, "T'he Boot-legger" is an excellent story produced by the Selig Comjpa'ny, and depicting certain phases of the Unisted Estates Government's fight to fctfipp out the Indian liqaior traffic. Tho phatograhpy 'was beautiful, and particularly that whicih shows an Apache at'tack on the •ranch. Mr 7bm fcan-iscihi, one of America's leading actors, takes the rtolie of the ''Bootlegger" (know® loc- | ally as a "dropper','). One of the i prettiest stfotries the famous Vitagraph Company has yet producM is thje lengfthy drama "A Message from I Beyond," relating to a boy's downfall 1 and how he saved himself tVom an ignoble life by (thoughts of lia.S' beloved mother. The Edison Company's dra<•nra, "Hom'e," was a ,splendid subject, arid made a powerful appeal- to those iwlho sometime® fail to recognise that '"there's no ip!.a,ce like home." "A Noble Enemy" was. a fine Lm'bin dra'ma which meit with general approval. Two comedies in particular ca.used roars of laughicr, viz., "Did Mother Get Her Wtsih" (an. A.8.), and "The Tramp add itlhe Bear" (a Lubin.) A popular cow-boy drama, "The Puncher's Law," was greeted with rounds of applaaiise. The latest new.s from Home and the Continent was contained in- the Gaiaaonit Graphic. A number of excellent seenios, etc., complete a programme that should not be missed.
Messrs Thompson and Payne annnounee tha't their third ppeciail star alttraction, "Vanity Fair," wi'll be shtowm on Thursday niglhit. This picture, founded on Thackeray's famous work—recently took Wellington 'by .stor'mi, being shown, to crowded houses iniiglhit and day. The picture is 3300 feet l'ong, and tlh-o finest thing yet attempted in cinematography. MASTERTON PICTURE COMPANY. Last evening the Masterton Town, IHjaffll was well filled by am- enthusiastic audience to witness the new programme put on. by the Ma'sterton, Piictftir'e Company, and these who were present had the pflea&ure of enjoying orfe of the finest cinematographic entertetaiments tihat have been seen in Mayberton, and tlhat the audience fully appreciated the different items was fully borne out by the ovation; of.applause that igreeted each part of tho programme. "The Boi-son Cup" and "G'eltting'His Mam'' were dramas of 'exicept.i»n.ad msrifc, and the pkft? • are carried' tihrcugih with" magnificent effect, and catose us to wonder more and; more at ilhe extraordinary resiulitis of cin'ematograpMc. art. The ■two star items were backed up by a series of splendid pictures, consisting of siriATag dramas, moat amusing, comics, and: several really wonderful scenics, portraying sights in various parts of the world. The programme as a, wlhio'Je represents a splendid effort oil the part of the Cbmipany, who spare no trouble to maintain the highest possible standard 1 , aind to put before the aiidcfen.ce only the very latest , attractions whictli have created sensations in various entries 'of the OM Country and America. An evening of reail enjoyment is guaranteed to all wltoo visit the Town, Hall. This excellent programme will be continued tonight and to-morrow evening, and on Thairsdiiy evening he management uffi iliave fliieir usual change of programme.
