NOTES. , (By All Black.) GLADSTONE v. TE WHARAU. The annual match, Gladstone v. le Wharan, was played at the former place on Saturday in the presence of a good attendance of the public. Considering tho season is just in. its .initial stages t.'id game showed glimpses of gocd football especially amongst the
forwards. Although Gladstone won by a good margin, duo chiefly to iho excellent form of Hodge, the game was fairly evenly contested. The first spell ended in. favour of Gladstone by 11 points to nil, and in the second half, although To Wharau tried very liard to score,, they were unable, to get across tlio line, the game ending in Glandstone's favour by 17 points to nil. Hodgo scored four excellent trios for Gladstone and K. Strang scored one, one try being converged. Mr A. G. Booth held the whistle. After the match the visitors were entertained by the Gladstone Club at the Gladstone Hotel, and «i very enjoyablo evening was-spent, and the hope expressed that a, return match would be played at Te Wharau during the season. The Masterton seniors journeyed to Carterton on Saturday and played a match with Carterton, but as tho Masterton men did not have their full strength tho Carterton men had a hollow victory, scoring 18 points to nil. It is to be regretted that tho Masterton men did aiot attend in larger j numbers, as practices of that descrip- I I tion are valuable from a training point / | of view, and while one team Jias prac- ' tically its full strength, it gains 'the benefit of the game. Tho Star seniors held a. practice on tho Showgrounds, but there Avero very few-seniors' present." It'.is hard to see' how tho Masterton' teams can expect to bo in form by tho l>eginning of the ' season if tho .memlwre do not roll up to practices. Tho fixtures for the first round of tho Wairarapa Championships appear in this issue, and no doubt interest in tho game will be sharpened and players who intend taking part in the season's matches should do their utmost to get into form. DUNEDIN MATCHES, (BySelegraph —Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Last Night.
