Owing to the late arrival of the s. s. Mararoa, it was not till.past 12.o'clock that the prisoner entered the dock, and by that time the expectation, which had been noticeable earlier in the morning, had died down, and the Court was not attended by curious spectators. The prisoner, Who was carefully attired in a green suit, looked nervous and pale,, his pallor being accentuated by his shock of disordered rbown hair, while his eyes roamed uneasily about the Court." The charges brought up against him were to the effect than on two occasions, namely on April 26th at Wellington, and on the Bth of the same month at Kaiapoi, he used a certain instrument for unlawful purposes, on a girl. On. the application ot Chief Detective Bishop, lie was remanded until Wednesday, May Mil. Bail was allowed accused in £loo and two sureties of £75 each, this ,being the same bail which he had been allowed by the Wellington Court.
