As your King, and as a Portuguese, I express ito alii my gratitude .for this manifestation. From tlie bottom of miy heart I send you in return greetings, vvith the solemn assurance that I feel myself 'aittached to my dear country and ,1. have faith in- its (future. I firmly believe in its redemption, and I am confident in my people, who are ever present in my mind and in ,my 'heart.
