WAIRARAPA P. AND A. SOCIETY
THE ANNUAL REPORT. The following report of the Committoo will bo presented at the annual meeting of tho Wairarapa ami East Coast P. and A. Society, Lo bo hold on Saturday next: — We have much pleasure in submitting the report and balance-sheet for the past year, which lias proved another successful one for the Society. The show again was marred to \i great extent- by the weather conditions, and though wo had a larger attendance than last year, still wc could I not hope to achieve a record success during the weather we experienced in our late spring.. Our entries were- not up to the previous year's show in point of numbers, which was a record, still the show receipts show a large increase, which more than balances the difference in entries, proving that tho show retains its popularity. You will notice that members number over GOO referred to in our last , report, but your committee is coniid-' ent that this number can be largely increased, and it is hoped special efforts to effect this will be made by members and committee during the coming year. Your Ground committee has avoided erecting any permanent improvement during the year, but at various meetings it held on tho gnnuids, necessary repairs were authorised. Since last the importance of covering our | sheop jiens has been brought before your committee, and after serious consideration by Finance, Ground, and ' General Committees, it was decided to issue debentures to have the work carried out. Nearly all the debentures were taken up by tho committee, who would liavo preferred to havo distributed them among all members interest , od. The plans of the covering of the sheep liens have been carefully drawn u-p, and wo look forward to seeing this very valuable addition to our improvements erected in the near future. Members have reason to feel proud of the success of the last ploughing match, which, although held in wretched weather, like the one before, was largely .attended, and brought out good competition. Through the generosity 1 of various business men. and farmers in | tho Wairarapa, we were enabled to offer good prizes, and this, no doubt, contributed to tho success of tho Competitions. It has been decided to hold tho Match this year on the 23rd May next, at Clareville, on.Mr A. ,T. Reynolds' farm, who has kindly placed a paddock at. tho:disposal of tho committee. The various Challenge-Cups, Rose Bowls, and trophies, offered each year were well competed"for, rand only oneCup has been won outright. The Quibell Cnp by Messrs Nelson Bros., to whom wo offer hearty congratulations. The dairying section was tho feature of the last'show, and the oritUe, particularly in Ayrshire's, were as fiuo an exhibit as ever met on the show grounds. " Your Committee has fixed the date of tho next Show for October 23rd and 24th, tho week following Hawkejs Bay, a", usual. - „ , r, ■ t \Ve desire on behalf of the Society to thank thoso who contributed to the Prizo Fund, both in Wellington an:l Wairarapa, and also to express our appreciation of the work earned our, | by tho judges and stewards, to whom belongs, in a groat measure, tho.credit of the success and popularity of the annual fixture. 'Tho President, Y ice-Presidents, Treasurer and Auditor, and .a proportion of the Committeo retire according to tho rales, and you will bo called upon to elect their successors.
