N.Z. REGIMENTS HONOURED

AUCKLAND*, Laet Night. His Excellency the 'Governor (Lord Islington) un-et a number of officers at Government, House this morning, and laamounced that His Majesty the King had been' graciously pleased to confer upon~the (following regiments the honour oT becoming their Colonel-in-Ohief:— Third ■ (Auckland) Mounted Rifles anfl First (Canterbury) Regiment, of Infantry. The King has also approved of the Second (Wellington - East Coast) uVlourcteds ibeing designated "Queen Alexandra's," its senior squadron •having been originally called after the Queen-Dowager when .of Wales. Lords Reverts and Kitchener have, since the inception of the new scheme, (become Colonels-iin-Chief cf the Royal New ZeiaWd. Artillery and a'll corps of the New Zealand Engineers respectively.
