AttoA PLOUGHS THROUGH A DOCK
SINKS A SMALL STEAM Ell

SEATTLE, April 26. A remarkablo shipping disaster has occurred here. The steamship Alameda ploughed through the Coleman Dock, tho finest structure on the lacific Coast, carrying off 100 ft bodily, crossing the. deck and hitting a. small steamer on the other side, sinking it instantly. The captain's orders to the engineroom were misunderstood when the Alameda, was docking, and as a result ■the vessel went full speed ahead. The captain tied down the whistle, a.nd a crowd of people on the end of the dock ran for their lives. Several were'-in-jured. The crew of the small steamer was flung into the water, but was rescued. (The Alameda was once in the San Francisco Auckland trade, and was then owned by tho Spreekles Coinpaiuy. Recently .she was sold to a steamship company trading from Seattle.)
