| ANNUAL MEETING. ! The annual meeting of St. Matthew's parislblioners was hcM i.n SfMatthew's Sdiool-iixwm last evening."" The Rev. H. Williams presided over a i good attendance of meniibcrs. The annual repoi-t and balance shtet were read and adopted. Air J. .W. Blackman was re-elected Parishioners'; Warden for the ensuing year, and Mr .E. H. Waddingtbh was ' -Messrs 0. W; Perry and>E; ! (G!.; Eton . were re-elected auditors .for the coming year.
In reference, to synodsmen fori ..the' parish,, it wavs pointed out that (me was at present" in England, and the other resided da Feilding. It was considered ,by members that it would be more beneficial to the church if a jfynodsman belonging to the parish were appointed. The chairman pointed out that as •the fe-jMd&mcn were' appointed for a term of three years,, tno matter could not ho dealt with for the present. Mir Blackmail moved a vote of thanks to Mr J. L. Murray for kindly granting the ,r.-?e of a room for the vestry (meetings. He also moved chat a record c.f appreciation be placed on the minutes of the work, done by the hon. secretary, Mr Dyer, who, during the year;" had got" through a large amount of work.
Mr Dyer, in replying, said that during the past year .the'' vestrymen held twenty '.meetings*, which showed the amount of work they got through. Mr Perry moved a vote of thanks--to the lion, secretary and to Mr J.'. L. Murray ifor'tJie. splendid work which they had done for the dvurch during the year. Mr Perry paid a compliment to Mr Dyer's keeping of accounts, malcing the work of auditor comparatively light. He also thought" that a change of auditor was desirable. Mr S. Lider,, in endorsing the remarks of the previous speakers, said < that the church had also'imieh for which to thank the various church organisations for their splendid work / curing the year. He .made special reference to the.work of the., Sunday, School teachers.. Tire Sunday School, he eaid, was the v iniost important work of the .church, as its' future.depended omtiroly on ihopQ who were now in the i Sunday School (stage,"andthe work of the teaAei'6 m t% : n branch cwkl' not be too highly appraised. Mr Green, in replying on behalf of the teachers, said that he thought'the work done by the Sunday School teao'lier was conside.red as, a privilege by. them. He would like,' ini this connection, that something should he done in the near future to improve the Sunday School, iiccommodation, but he ! was sure that the matter would he attended to.
The chairman Heartily endorsed the opinions of the previous speakers, anid proposed a vote of thanks to the Ladies' Visiting Guild, which was re-
sponsible for a great amount of good work. He said that if all the''ladies in the ■ worked as they should, and as many of them did, the parishioners •would be we'Jl looked after, as many cages of sickness did not" come under the notice of the Vicar until' /mentioned' by tibo visiting guild. He hoped thai the members would recognise their responsibility in this work. On a ballot being taken, the Vestrymen of last year were' re-elected as ifollow-s: — Mte's&rs J. .Brown, H. B. Dyer, J. B. Henry, G. Hyde, S. Index, Ha«d-iNewton, R. E. Jones, J. L. Murray, A. E. Wiinzenberg, and J. Do Castro.
