The Rov. J. J. Pendray, of Eketahtti»; was tendered'a farewell social on. Tuesday evening by tihe congrcgatioaof iihoMotlsbdist Church. Mr J. G. Wilson, President of the FarmW Union, addressed a meeting of settas at Eketahuna yesterday on the subjects of "Fanning Interests and "Plant Breeding. The death occurred in Ashburtom oa Friday of an old and highly-respected resident of the district in the person of Mr Thomson/ McKay, of Boundary Road, Willowby. The late Mr McKay, who was 66 years of age, was takea suddenly ill at Timwald sale last Tuesday, and was conveyed to Oakhurst Hospital, Ashburton., where he lingered until Friday last. It is stated on good authority 7th at Mr Andrew Rutherford intends to contest i&o Huruniui electorate as an Independent at the next election. A quiet wedding was solemnised at St. Bridget's Church,- .Feilddng, on -Mcndav, by tiio Revi Father Kincaid between Mr M. E. Harmston, of the .Hastinjgs railway staff, and Miss-Eteie Wc-ulfe, daughter of Mrs J. .wpu.ui«, -a. reside of Feilding. ■■ The bnde, who was attired in a taalor-made cos-- • tumo and picture hat, was given an ay hv her brother-in-law, Mr J - ncdy, of Masterton, and was attended by Miss Agnes Ross as chief bridesmaid and Moya *nd Sheila [verily, -(nieces of the bride). Mr J. Woulfe acted as best man. Mr G. Hunter, M.P., was entertained* at a social at Wadpukurau last evening. The HonrH. G. Ell, PostanasterGeneral, according to the Auckland Observer, was at one time a policeman.
Mr J. G. Delaney, of the-literary staff of the EMam Argus, has been appointed editor of the North Auckland Times, in succession to Mr Chevaasus, who has succeeded Mr E. W. Robson as editor, ..of -the -Wairarapa Daily Times. - "
Mr C. Holdaway, of Ballanee, and formerly of Masterton, has received word from America that his son, Mr C. W. Holdaway, who is a student at tho Blaoksburg College, Virginia, was placed at the top of the honours list at the recent examination. Donaldson", who is about to leave on a visit to Europe. Mr W. Gillespie, Secretary' of the Society,;" - in the absence of the President/ Mr A. McLeod, presented Mr Donaldson with a handsome case of pipes, suitably inscribed, and also letters of introduction to Caledonian Societies in othar parts of the world. Mr Donaldson, in aoknowledgmg. the gifts, said that he hoped on his return, to Masterton to find, the Caledonian Society in an even more flourishing iondition than it is at present. An interesting wedding was celebrated yesterday afternoon, in St. Matthew's Church, Masterton, when Mr James R. White was married to Miss Frances J. Bkkett, both of Masterton. Miss Catherine. Lee acted, as j bridesmaid, and Mr William Mitchell was best man. The Rev. H. Williams conducted the -wedding ceremony." A Christctmrch telegram states tliut Mr E. R. Waite, curator of tho Chvist- ' church Mtiseum, has accepted Professor David's invitation to join the "Aurora" on -her sub-Antarctic cri'ise. We (Carterton News) believe that Mr R. Heald, formerly stationmaster - at Carterton, was a passenger on the lost Titanic. Mrs Arthur Cliff, of New Plymouth, died on, Tuesday, after an operation. She was a sister-in-law of Mrs C. Fairbrofcher, Dalefield. Mr John Macalisteiy formerly one fff the most prominent members of the legal profession in Invercargill, died at his residence, West Plains, on Friday evening, the cause of death being heart failure. The late Mr Macalister was fifty-four years of age, and he was born in. Lanarkshire, Scotland. The Hon. W. P. F. Canieross, M.L.C., is confined to his home at Elbham with illness.
