MASTERTON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the General Committee of the Mastcrton A. and P. Association was held on Saturday last, there .being present: Messrs H. Morrison (President), H. Evans, H. J. Dagg, E. C. Perry, 11. J. Dagg, W. H. Buick, T). Foreman, 10. G. Allen, W. Perry, G. C. Summcrell, J. P. Perry, J. H. James, G. Shaw, E. Gray, A. 1). MeMaster, C. F. Yallanee, A. J. Percy, H. A. Matthews, B. Rayner, J). McGregor, E. Harper, O. C. Cooper, 1). Casclherg, Q. -Donald, W. J. Welch, J, B. Moodio and J. C. .McKillop. The report of the meeting held to consider the question of 'holding a ploughing-mateh in connection with tho Association was read. This recommended tliat, in view of tine forthcoming stock fair, the ploughing match he deferred for this year. The President, reported that the canvass on behalf, of the proposed stock fair was proving highly successful, and it was hoped that a. large sum of money would ho raised. . Mr'J. B- Macdonald, of Levin, in forwarding a cheque in connection with horse loose-boxes, complained that the train arrangements for the show were very had. He expressed the hope that the railway •facilities for the next show would .be.improved.—On tho motion of Mr D. Caselberg, it was decided to thank Mr iMacdonald for his letter, and to inform him that efforts would he made to improve th.3 arrangemenits for tho next show. .'• Mr R. C.■"' Fowler/, of Mangamahoe, wrote congratulating the Association upon, the admirable arrangements for tho lata show. The Secretary of the Master ton Technical School asked for the co-oper-ation of the Association, in the matter of the establishing of veterinary classes in connection with the school. Tho Secretary stated that lie had already written the Technical School Managers, offering every assistance in tho way of procuring pupils. Tho Secretary of the Manawatu A. and P. Association that Messrs J. O. Batchelor and Balsillic were going to England, and suggesting that they represent the Masterton Association at the meeting of the National Sheepbieedeis' •Association. It was pointed out that (Mr James Stuckey had previously .represented this Association at tho conference. —On the motion of Mr W. Perry, it was decided that Messrs Stuckey and Batchelor ihe appointed delegates of the Masterton Association at the Conference. ;

The Ota go A. and P. Association asked for co-operation/ ini a movement to secure legislation for the suppression of the xise of pea-rifles.—Several members agreed as to the evils attending the indiscriminate "use of the pearifle, hht the opinion was expressed that it would he difficult to frame legislation to deal /with the matter. — Tha.letter was received. Mr Paul Hunter was thanked for tho refund of his judging fees. Miss Pattle, of Featherstoni, wrote claiming a sum of £4 in payment for 'an overcoat which had been placed in the ladies' cloak-room aaid had .been lost. —It was pointed out that no charge had been made for the use of tpiia cloak-room.T-On the motion' cf Mr Perry, it. was decided to pay the amount claimed, and to ask the caretaker of the doak r room for an explanation. ; Apologies for, absence ( were from'-Messrs' J. The report of tho meeting of the Ground Committee, at which Mr R. Gray presided, was read. The.action of the chairman in accepting iMr R. Dagg's tender of £32 10s for grazing Sol way to December 31 was endorsed. A request of the caretaker for permission to use a paddock (about, five acres) across tho railway line, was acceded to. The caretaker submitted a list of necessary works on the grounds. It was resolved to recommend the planting of a hedge at each eiid of the grandstand la.wn, and that the matter be placed in the'hands of Messrs R. Gray, W. Perry and E. Hale.

FINANCE. The Finance -Committee's report waa read. Tilic financial position was shown to'be as follows: —Debit balance in March, £375 8s 9d; expenditure for month, £1874 4s 2d. Receipts for the. month, £551 7s 6d. Debit balanco at date, £156212s Id. Accounts amounting to £27,10s Sd.were recommended for payment. The receipts for the year, including a lean of £4OOO, were shoira to be £7184 2s sd. These embraced entry fees, £474 6s; .donation®, £482 lis 9d; members' subscription, £970 10s; renewal fees, £743 14s id; ram fair fees, £206 14s; sundries, £290 9s 7d.
