AUCKLAND, Last Night

The Young Maori Party's annual conference opened yesterday, the Hon. To Bangihiroa presiding. The- Minister, in the course of an address, said the solvation of the Maori lay in i work. The .party recognised this fully, hut were seeking'apractical scheme !hy which the energies of the race I'which had been 'lying dormant, could be directed towards the utilisation of their own lands. The party had always urged that the State should assist Maori farmers, both financially, and by instruction, and it was gratifying to note in the Governor's Speech that steps were ho : ng taken .towards this end. H this were done the Maori would have an opportunity of showing what he was capable of.
