The autumn, meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club opened to-day, in fine though dull weather, and with a large attendance of the public. The totalisator investments amounted to £26,200 10s, as compared with £21,810 on the first day of last year. Results :
Kildare Hurdles, two miles.— Dorando 11.0, 1; Jack Ashore 9.0, 2; Gold Bird 12.5, 3. Only starters. Won by two lengths, with four lengths between second and third. Time, 3min. 49 l-ssecs.
Cliampagne Stakes, six furlongs.— Sir G. Clifford's b c Axitumnus, 8.10, (E. E. Jones) 1; Gnome 8.10, 2; Winning Way 3. Also started — Bon Ton 8.10, Ermengarde 8.8. Autumnus and Winning Way were bracketed on the- machine. Won easily by two lengths, with half a length between second and third, and Ermengarde a head further back. Time, Imin. 14 sees.
