Commissioner of Taxes; aiul Kauri Tirn.l;ci* Comipnny v. the Is a me. The <as'r« are being argued together, the question bring in what cases •'I at all) ar.d to what extent is a timber company which owns standing tim'ber entitled, in jrtr> as&essment for income tax, to deduct from the gross proceeds cf its business the value of standing timbers so cut by it. The companies contend they should ho allowed to deduot from their gross ; returns from the timber, the costs to them of the standing timber. Sir J. ISG. FindJiay, K.C., and Mr J. Stout are appearing for the Taupo C6mpany x Mr Cotter and Mr Scihnauer for the 'KJhuri Oompn'ny, and the Solicitor-. _'General for the Commissioner of Taxes. Argument is of a technical nature, and the case is likeiy to last well into ■to-morrow.
