CARTERTON. Mr E. V. Ellis, who in shortly for England accompanied by his mother, was on Thursday afterternoon presented with a set" of military hairbrushes from the members of the Carterton Swimming Club. Mr J. A. Dudson made the presentation. Mr A. Soeley, who has for some 1 , years past been managing the hard, ware department of tho Mutual Trading Co., Ltd,, has accepted a similar position in Eaikoura, South Island, 'and will lenvo Cartei-ton in tiic course of tho next week or so. • Mr R. Bridge, who 'has for the past four years .been attached to tho outside staff of tho local railway station, has been advised of his transfer to ' Potone, and will he succeeded here by tho officer in charge of Pigeon Bush'. Mr Bridge, by his obliging and courteous manner has won the esteem of tho public during his sojourn here, all of Avhoni will hear with regret of his departure. The annual meeting of the Carterton [ Golf Club was held on Thursday evening, Mr W. H. Booth presiding. Tho ' report and balance-sheet showing a ' credit of £1 5s was read and adopted. Officers wero elected as follows:--Presidents, Mr W. H. Booth and Dr. Johnson; captain, Mr R. W. Royd.house; ladies',captain, Mrs W. Howiard Booth; ladies vice-captain, Miss ■ Booth; men's committee, Messrs J. ' Steele, L. Aplin, 5...-H, Poole, Dr. I Gunii, B. Booth, H. 'S. Moss, E. B. I Hall, H. McKenna, and officers; ladies committee, Mcsdames P. A. Cole, J. J. Mead, C. Goodin, A. C. Feast, I Davidson, Misses .Broad-bent, Young, I E. Booth and G. Berrell; men's | match committee, Messrs J. Steele, B. Booth, and the captain; ladies' j match committee, Mesdames Cole, Goodin, Miss E. Booth and the cap- j tain; auditor, Mr L. H. Smart.. Five ' new members were.elected.i It was rc ~ 1 ported that a proposal had been made to secur, t he services of golf cough for , t-no Wairarapa, and letters were read from three clubs suggesting a conference. It j was decided to open the season on Saturday, April 13th. , ) The New Zealand railway Depart- \ rnfeut has accepted the tender of Mr J W. Tucker, bookseller, Carterton, for [ the lease of the railway 'bookstall at the Carterton railway station.
