KNOX SUNDAY SCHOOL

FORTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY. The congregations at Knox Church, Master ton, yesterday, were silly large, the occasion, being tihe for-ty-fiifth. anniversary of the Sunday School. The Rev. J. Gibson Smith, of St. Andrew's 'Church,-. Wellington, occupied- the pulpit at all three services, and preached powerful, appro-! priate sermons. In the morning, for /tile children's address," he took as his text, "Thou- sha&t be like a watered garden" (Isaiah 58-11), and based his remarks to the.adulstis upon a text taken from,Makchi 4-6, "And He shall'turn the heart of the fathers to the tfraldren,;and the: heart, of the children--to their fathers." The evening sermon was specially directed to the young men.and women, when the preacher delivered an .inspiring address, from Matthew "For who-eo-ever .shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother and sister and mother." At the afternoon service the prizes won by scholars on. last yearV work were presented. An excellent set of hymns was rendered by the children ahd choir in a most pleasing manner, .the'parts being very 'wellbalanced. Perhaps the most appreciated items were: "Evening Star" (hymn) and "The Watchword," and "Brightly Gleamis our Banner," (anthems), each of .'which was sung with excellent effect. Mr R. J. Young, "who conducted the singing, is to be congratulated on the success attained. Mr Purcell Webb officiated at the organ in has xis\ial masterly manner. The anniversary social is to be held in Knox Hall this evening.
