Orowds of half starved children, in tother di&tricts are flocking to the soup kitchens." A constable'in Middlesiborough sa.w a man steal a loaf, and when, captured he said, "Please, I am. starving, and so is my missus. Gome and see." The constable went to the house, and discovered the wife cooking a small dog. ' The Government is placing measures for the relief of +lie distress. The War Office is expected to call out the reserves to protect the miners who are willing to work. Strike pay in Northumberland has been reduced by half. Hie- South Wales miners will receive their last instalment this; week, ■and Lancashire next week. Durham, Derbyshire 'and Nottingham are able to pay full allowances .for a month longer. •
